Hotel pickup or direct mountain meet
If requested, we pick you up at your hotel in Quito. Otherwise, meet your private guide directly at TelefériQo. We check gear, weather and altitude before starting.
Your mountain, your pace. A private guide leads only your booking from Quito into páramo, volcanic sand and rock, with optional hotel pickup included.
Few cities let you eat breakfast downtown and stand above 4,600 meters before the day is over. Rucu Pichincha is Quito's mountain — close enough to touch, high enough to demand respect.
The TelefériQo does the first dramatic move, carrying you from the city to Cruz Loma near 4,000 meters. From there the noise disappears. The trail rolls through open páramo, the summit gets sharper ahead, the ground turns volcanic and the last section becomes a hands-on rocky finish. The reward is not only the summit sign. It is looking back at Quito and realizing how far above the city you walked.
This is a high-altitude hike, not a casual city walk. The route is technically approachable for active travelers, but the thin air, fast-changing weather and rocky upper section are what make a local guide valuable.

The cable car climbs from Quito to the high páramo in roughly 18 minutes. We take a short moment at the top before moving onto the trail.
We build the pace gradually. The route opens across high grasslands, then steepens toward the sandy upper slopes as the summit begins to dominate the view.
The final section is more hands-on and exposed to wind. If conditions and the group are right, we reach the summit, take the moment in, then begin the descent.
We descend the same mountain, return to Cruz Loma and ride the cable car back to the city. Total timing varies with pace, weather, queues and trail conditions.
You should be comfortable walking uphill for several hours and moving on uneven terrain.
If you're arriving from sea level, spending time in Quito before the hike gives your body a better chance to adjust.
The standard route is non-technical, but the rocky summit section can require using your hands and confident footing.
Your private experience can begin with pickup at your hotel in Quito, included when requested. If you prefer, you can meet your guide directly at the TelefériQo base station. Final timing is confirmed on WhatsApp.

Not for the standard route. You do need reasonable fitness, confidence on uneven terrain and respect for the altitude. The last rocky section can involve using your hands.
It is possible for some travelers, but arriving from sea level and immediately going above 4,600 m can feel much harder. We prefer travelers to spend time acclimatizing in Quito first whenever their itinerary allows.
Not in the base price. The cable-car ticket is purchased separately at the station. We keep it separate because public tariffs and operating conditions can change.
The mountain decides. Fog, strong wind, rain or electrical storms can change the pace, turnaround point or departure itself. Reaching the summit is never prioritized over a safe return.
Yes. Every Unmapped Ecuador departure is private to your booking. You get your own guide, your own pace and optional hotel pickup in Quito as part of the experience.
The trail itself usually takes about 6–8 hours round trip from Cruz Loma, including the ascent and descent. Your pace, acclimatization, weather and stops can change that range.
Send us your date and group size. We'll confirm the route, current conditions and the best plan for your day.
